Anurag thakur coined the statement that India is preparing for the 2036 Olympic Games and bidding for the same. During the Khelo India Youth Games opening ceremony in Tamil Nadu, Anurag Thakur announced that India is preparing to bid for and organize the 2036 Summer Olympics.

The Khelo India Youth Games' sixth edition is scheduled to take place from January 19–31, 2024. According to the Union Sports Minister, the nation is working hard, to host the Olympics in 2036, and meets all the necessary qualifications to do so. "India will submit a bid to host the Olympics in 2036; we are working toward that goal."
He said "With our youthful population and abundance of athletes, we have undoubtedly risen to the fifth-largest economy in the world and will soon surpass rank as the world's third-largest economy. We meet every prerequisite to be considered as the 2036 Olympic host nation." During the Khelo India Youth Games, Union Minister Anurag Thakur stated, "Let us wait for the right time."
The Youth Games have previously taken place in five different cities, most notably Delhi, Pune, Guwahati, Panchkula, and Bhopal. Four Tamil Nadu cities—Chennai, Trichy, Madurai, and Coimbatore—will host the next edition. The official logo, jersey, mascot, torch, and theme song for the Khelo India Youth Games in Tamil Nadu were unveiled on Friday by main guest Thakur.
Among the dignitaries attending the inaugural ceremony on Friday was Udhayanidhi Stalin, the Minister for Youth Welfare and Sports Development for the Tamil Nadu government.
